About the National Aeronautics and Space Administration

The mission of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is “To drive advances in science, technology, aeronautics, and space exploration to enhance knowledge, education, innovation, economic vitality, and stewardship of Earth.”

NASA is organized into the following directorates:

  • Aeronautics - Focuses on a broad range of technologies to meet future needs of the aviation community, the nation, and the world for safe, efficient, flexible, and environmentally sustainable air transportation.
  • Exploration Systems - Manages the human exploration system development for lunar orbital, lunar surface, and Mars exploration.
  • Science - Seeks to discover the secrets of the universe, search for life elsewhere, and protect and improve life on Earth and in space
  • Space Operations - The hub of NASA’s space exploration efforts, enabling Artemis, commercial space, science, and other agency missions through communication, launch services, research capabilities, and crew support
  • Space Technology - develops, demonstrates, and transfers new space technologies that benefit NASA, commercial, and other government missions.
