Working with diverse student populations enhances both the quality of your proposal and the quality of the UC Davis student experience. At Davis we are a national leader for student support related to several student populations, including undocumented students, Hispanic students, and first-generation students.
What to emphasize in your proposal: It’s not just that you’re going to work with these groups—it’s that you’ll do it better than other applicants precisely because of the uniquely robust collection of institutional resources available for your use.

Broadening Participation Resources at UC Davis
Inclusive Excellence
Undocumented Student Resource Center
Early Academic Outreach Program (EAOP)
First-Generation Initiative
Graduate Inclusion & Belonging
Emerging Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI)
McNair Scholars
UC-HBCU Pipeline Program
And more!
There are a great deal more campus units geared toward specific student populations, including (but not limited to) the Native American Student Success Center, the Cross Cultural Center, the LGBTQIA+ Resource Center, the Women’s Resources and Research Center, the Student Recruitment and Retention Center, the Strategic Asian and Pacific Islander Retention Initiative, Veterans Success Center, Global Affairs, and more. The best approach is to first identify which underrepresented groups you’d like to work with and then locate the campus resources specific to those groups.
University of California Public Engagement (UCPE) database
A database of activities administered by UC Davis that include, involve, or impact individuals, groups, and communities beyond the university. If you administer a publicly engaged program, project, internship, course, or partnership, please enter it in the database. If you are unsure whether your activity fits within the database, you can review the guiding questions to help make a determination.
